Karen Francis was born in 1975 to Gitxsan mother and Tlingit father and was raised by non-native parents. Having practiced art on and off throughout her life she obtained a Fine Arts Degree in 1996 with Emily Carr University of Art and Design, majoring in oil painting. She is a community and self-taught Northwest Coast Artist with the goal of using contemporary native art to help bridge cultural understanding and acceptance. Material is jute.
